Global warming
Myths . The scenes of the film show freezing weather phenomena northern hemisphere in a few hours or simultaneous hurricanes that destroy entire city. No scientific study says climate change will happen this quickly .
Reality. The threat of climate change is not a scientific hypothesis fashion, it is a fact, thousands of scientists said the effects of climate change include rising sea levels , droughts , floods , hurricanes and general weather more recurrent and more severe .
Kills . Deaths from climate change, according to the study published by the World Health Organization , and amounted to 160 thousand people a year and it is estimated that this figure will increase dramatically. Most of the deaths occur in the most vulnerable regions : Latin America, Africa and Asia. We should note that the geographical location of Mexico gives us a special fragility to the impacts of climate change , especially in terms of heat waves, longer droughts and extreme weather events . Scenarios of climate change for Mexico are alarming due to climatic changes and the great social and economic vulnerability of the country.
Disaster . People living in areas at risk in precarious housing in areas with water shortages, with pollution problems or cultivated rainfed land , lacking food , health assistance and services , ie much of the Mexican population , suffers greater impact and climate changes . According to the World Disasters Report of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the impacts of climate change can not be addressed by international aid and will not be able to respond to the demands of the most affected countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia .
Causes . Emissions of carbon dioxide ( CO2) , the main greenhouse gas , causing global climate change . The CO2 comes mostly from fossil fuels (oil , gas and coal) using the transport and electricity generation . To stop mankind climate change requires a global response , agreed by governments to save the delicate balance of the planet and give it priority over the interests of large transnational automotive , oil and other industries addicted to coal, oil and gas .
Facts vs. Fiction . The following information may not be as impressive as a film , but the ecological balance is so sensitive that small changes cause disastrous consequences. For example, most of the warming over the last 50 years is attributable to human activities , the nineties has been the warmest , in 1998 the highest temperature was recorded from the year that he began to make a record: 1861. Moreover, in the last century sea level rose between 10 cm and 20 cm. In fact climate change is considered a weapon of mass destruction and even a more serious problem than terrorism .
